Carragher hit the nail on the head when he said that people paying hundreds of pounds to watch their club might at least expect to be entertained and to have some excitement.

Thanks for posting that link. Carragher, I have always liked, Redknapp Jnr not so much. After watching that, how refreshing to see people who are capable of original thought on the topic. Souness was made to look like the thick fucking mug that he is. Well done the Jamies

And the good spell this season came by accident rather than design because Allardyce was forced to change tactics by injuries to Nolan and Carroll

If that wasn't the case, why did he change the tactics back to that which yielded poor football and results the moment Nolan returned from injury ?

And where was the critical analysis from the so called experts to seek an explanation for that bewildering change of tactics and the slump in form that ensued

Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
Wise words Prom.

I had a look at the kast two years tables this morning just to remind myself what a great manager we've had.

In Feb 2014 we got 12 points from 4 games. In the rest of the season, the small matter of 34 games, we achieved 28 points at a rate that would have seen us relegated in 19th place if those 4 games had yielded the same ratio of points.

We stank the place out all season long and were, for me, the worst footballing team in the division by a distance.

This year much the same, just a little more sustained from the 6th week onwards for around 6 weeks. Before that, and after that, yes .... We stank the place out etc etc!

So our excellent safe bet manager has ruled over a team that's managed two short spells of good results amongst relegation standard football for 2 years. So should we have gambled on managing another short spell of results versus almost 2 whole seasons of awful football and awful results?

One of the great myths of the modern pundit

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
So Swansea who came up a year after us and have a novice manager finish above us AGAIN despite spending much less money.

Southampton who came up with us and have a novice Premiership manager and sold half their team finish above us AGAIN despite spending much less money.

Crystal Palace who came up 2 years after us and have changed managers every six months finish above us AGAIN despite spending much less money.

Stoke finish above us AGAIN despite losing "Mr safety" himself Pullis and spending much less money.

Allardyce is not as good as the pundits claim in reality!

All smaller clubs than us but we are not allowed to try and finish above them and appoint a better manager according to the managerial failure bellend Shearer?

What is this yoyo club rubbish? They realise they're talking about West Ham, and not West Brom I assume?

We're a million miles away from being a yoyo club. It's a laughable comment.

Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
I think it is human nature Prometheus. We all have an accepted image of clubs and managers and for that matter, most things in life.

As you so rightly pointed out, Man City and Chelsea changed their images by having owners that injected huge sums.

As far as lazy commentators like Shearer and Souness are concerned, WH is still the same old club of their active football careers. Both spout bollocks and are a pair of hypocritical jokes really. Both were shit managers....

Prometheus50 1:03 Mon May 25
Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
right TG

Again the absence of any critical analysis by the pundits to recognise that, assuming deadwood like Nolan and Carlton Cole are jettisoned, the new manager will have players playing in the right system in a formation designed to win games, neither of which Allardyce proposed to do for most of last season and almost the entire second half of this season

Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
Merson on Sky Sports news this morning saying "what is the West Ham way?" And they view it as how we played in the 60s 70s and 80s, but dismissed it as the past.
Why can't that be the way we play in future?
Merse then said Sam would ensure we stay in the Prem, but in the next sentence said we would struggle to avoid relegation next season as our form since Christmas has been shocking.
So dim he doesn't realise he's contradicted himself!!!

Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
No matter what happens next season Allardyce will come out smelling like roses. If we do well it will be because of the foundations Allardyce built and if we do poorly it will be because we didn't keep Allardyce

Prometheus50 12:55 Mon May 25
Re: Geordie twatt Shearer
there appears to be this consensus amongst pundits that Allardyce is a good manager that a club such as West Ham should consider themselves lucky to have

Now at the nadir of the club after the disastrous Avram Grant spell, it is probably true to say that West Ham were lucky to get a manager who would get promotion to the PL and keep them there

But beyond this their collective minds seem to fog over with the exception of a minority like Jamie Redknapp, because all we hear are fawning superlatives about Big Sam, how he'll keep the club in the PL etc etc, without a single critical analysis of his performance over the past two seasons and concomitant recognition from those stats, that in fact Big Sam perhaps isn't so likely to keep the club up

When Martin Samuel published an excellent and detailed criticism of Allardyce last year when the club went perilously close to relegation, not one pundit bothered to pick up on that and consider that perhaps at the very best, Allardyce is yesterday's manager who cannot keep pace with the modern game

It is also true that certain pundits seem to consider West Ham's position to always be a mediocre club (or yoyo club as Souness repeatedly said) conveniently forgetting that of todays top 4 clubs, Chelsea were also a yoyo club and are only where they are today because of the subsidies of a Russian oligarch whereas Man City, who like West Ham have some of the most loyal long suffering fans in football, were recently in the third division before the money came rolling in

As Redknapp repeatedly pointed out to Souness, why can't West Ham be an attractive proposition when they move into the Olympic Stadium ?

The answer is there is no reason at all why not, but some pundits find that hard to accept, much preferring to support yesterday's managers like Allardyce keeping West Ham where they think they should be rather than where we want them to be
